2022 BHS JV game summaries

7-5-3 regular season record, 2-2 JV Harvest Tournament. JV Harvest tournament at Merrimack Valley HS, 10/22/22 Falcons fall in finals with 2 wins and 2 losses Game 1 sees a rematch of the day before. Host MV matches their 2-1 win over Bow in their tournament opener. Carter Weiss nets the only Bow goal. MV score one on a breakaway, and one on a header. Bow sinks Souhegan 4-0 to make it through pool play. James Green gets 2 goals, Weiss a goal and an assist, Cam Fuchs a goal, and Gavin Buxton an assist. In the semifinals, #2 seed Bow shuts out #1 seed Pembroke 2-0 in a game cut short by card accumulation by the Spartans. The perils of arguing most every call garners 2 red cards for Pembroke. Eli Modzeleski collects a goal and an assist. Jake Reardon scoops up the other goal. Cam (T-Cone) Fuchs has a helper. Coe-Brown claims the inaugural MV Harvest Tourney title with a sound 4-1 drubbing over the JV Falcons. The Bears jumped all over their Bow counterparts to start the game and hastily got up 1-0. Bow managed a score on a well executed shot from distance by Eli Modzeleski. That stopped the bleeding, but only temporarily. Coe-Brown countered with a well placed strike from distance of their own, and added 2 more before the final, relieving whistle marked the end of 4 grueling hours of soccer on a stunning Fall Saturday. BHS JV hosts Merrimack Valley 10/21/2022 2-1 loss The junior Falcons close out their regular season with a 2-1 loss at home to the MV Pride. Bow sprang out to a lead from a dangerously slotted corner kick off the foot of midfielder Matei Botha. An exquisitely headed ball back across the goal mount finds the side netting. No Falcon player claims a point on the goal, as it was the result of a rare own-goal header. The same Pride player, a lanky center back with a very socceresque name of Rutger, evens the score before the first half whistle blew. This time on a powerful PK. Back and forth play in the 2nd half tipped MV’s way when keeper Drew Burgess had one squeeze out of his hands, only to be poached and put away by a Pride striker. BHS JV at Conval 10/18/2022 1-0 loss Bow JV come up empty against Conval in 1-0 loss at Peterborough. A combination of good goaltending by the Conval netminder and a rare inability to finish in the final third sends the Falcons home with their first loss in 5 games. Bow controlled much of the play and garnered half a dozen legitimate scoring opportunities. Cougars capitalize on a deep direct kick that bounced through the back line and left keeper Drew Burgess with the unenviable task of one-on-one defending from 25 yards out. Burgess had 5 prior saves, but that one eluded him and the Conval Senior Night warmup game gave the home crowd a warm and cozy feeling…which, after the twilight varsity finale, quickly dissipated into the cool Fall air. BHS JV at Hollis-Brookline 10/14/22 2-0 win The JV Falcons call upon their primary scoring asset Carter Weiss, who delivers 2 lethal strikes in the 2nd half to help leave the Cavaliers empty after an 80 minute tilth. Weiss catches the H-B goalkeeper cheating off his line and stuns the home crowd with a perfectly driven ball from 15 yards away, deep in the 18-yard box, with very little wiggle room and a difficult angle. For the security goal, Weiss collected a pass from center back Liam Miller, shrugged off the H-B center backs and left their keeper flat footed, dejectedly watching the ball roll into his goal. In the final 10 minutes, noticeably tired legs scrambled to keep H-B off the scoreboard. Bow bent, but didn't break. Keeper Drew Burgess pounced on a breakaway shot that kissed the upright and bounced back into play. A stalwart effort from backline players, Ryan Dolder, Liam Miller, and Cam Leonard was critical. As was the stellar effort from center midfielders Matei Botha and Jake Reardon. Peak performance from the entire Bow squad matched the peak foliage around the pitch. BHS JV hosts Plymouth 10/11/22 8-2 win Bow rocks Plymouth with 8-2 landslide victory at home. Bobcats seem defenseless as the Falcons fire off 7 unanswered in the first half. The lopsided score let’s coach Ferland move players around a bit, and play down 2 in the second half. The usual cast light up the scoreboard. Carter Weiss nets 2 goals and 3 assists before playing the last 20 minutes in goal. Matei Botha started the scoring barrage with a beautifully placed 22 yard strike, then went on to get 2 more for his first hat trick of the season. James Green got 2 helpers, while Gavin Buxton and Jake Reardon each chip in a goal. Cam Leonard adds a fresh face to the scorer’s list with a goal and an assist. BHS JV hosts Kennett 10/4/22 6-1 win JV Falcons outsoar Eagles 6-1 in less than 60 minutes of play on Bow’s premier field. In an offensive onslaught only halted by darkness, the Falcons rattle off 6 before Kennett score one on the last play of the game. Bow’s usual suspects spatter the scorecard; Carter Weiss with a hat trick and a pair of assists, James Green with a pair of goals, Jake Reardon with a goal and an assist, and Matei Botha with a helper. Keeper Drew Burgess was sound in goal, springing off his line for a couple diving deflections that kept the Eagles at bay. Sound too was the back line of Cam Leonard, Caleb Sandahl, Liam Miller, and Ryan Dolder. BHS JV hosts John Stark 10/1/2022 7-0 win Green is Gold to start October with a stunning 7-0 win over the Generals. Sophomore James Green nets a hat trick in the first half, and adds another plus a helper in the second to bag a 5 point game. Fellow assailant Carter Weiss is one step back with a goal and 3 assists. Freshman Yousef Khudair lands his first High School goal. Jake Reardon rounds out the scoring with a header redirect on a feed from Ryan Dolder. Matei Botha had a standout performance in the midfield. Keepers Drew Burgess and Liam Miller split shutout duties between the pipes. BHS JV at Hopkinton Sep 28, 2022 4-4 tie In a battle of predatory birds, the Falcons regain their trajectory after a demoralizing defeat the day before. Falcons and Hawks draw 4-4. Captain Carter Weiss re-asserts his offensive prowess with 2 goals, the second of which a masterfully struck direct kick from 22 yards out. Top corner, nothing but net. Co-captain Jake Reardon slid his 6 foot 3 inch frame between two Hawk defenders for a nifty redirect on a 35 yard free kick from center back Ryan Dolder. Other center back Liam Miller headed in the game tying goal on a saucy pass from borrowed varsity sophomore Cam Fuchs. In the closing seconds, James Green’s header off a Reardon throw-in dinged dangerously off the crossbar, letting the home team Hawks escape with a tie. BHS JV hosts Pembroke Sep 27, 2022 6-2 Loss The Spartans avenge an early season loss to the JV Falcons with a resounding 6-2 victory, besting the 5-2 finale of their previous matchup. True to form, Carter Weiss scores both Falcon goals, with Aidan Kelly serving a cheeky cross on the nicely volleyed 2nd snipe. The highlight reel ended there. The game finished with a sour note of rife within the Falcons ranks, and a slate needing to be wiped clean. Teaching and learning moments aplenty! BHS JV at Merrimack Valley Sep 24, 2022 3-3 tie In a hotly contested homecoming tilth, Bow ends level with MV 3-3. The usual offensive suspects strike for Bow. Carter Weiss nets 2 and James Green lands 1. Sloppy play on corner kicks give MV a 2-1 lead at the half, but the junior Falcons put MV on their heels soon after the halftime whistle with a pair of well placed shots. MV levels midway through the chippy 2nd half. Play and some thoughtless chirping prompts the referees to cut the game short by 10 minutes – though Bow stays cool throughout, following the lead of field general Jake Reardon. All 11 players got 70 minutes on the pitch. Bow’s only subs come from Constantly Pizza, scarfed down on the bus ride home. BHS JV at Lebanon Sept 16, 2022 4 – 0 loss Some days teams lay an egg, and today it landed on the scoreboard. Bow gets drop kicked by a sound Leb side. 3 breakaway goals in the first 20 minutes of play set the tone. A bright spot in the loss was backup keeper Liam Miller’s solid performance after stepping in between the pipes in the 25th minute. BHS JV vrs Kingswood at home Sept 14, 2022 6 – 1 win After Kingswood jumps out with an opening goal, Bow tallies 6 unanswered to cruise to a 6-1 final. The scoring wealth was shared by Carter Weiss, Gavin Buxton, James Green(2), Ryan Dolder, and Cam Leonard. Dolder and Leonard notch their first high school goals. Keeper duties were split between Drew Burgess and Liam Miller. BHS JV at Oyster River September 13, 2022 2 – 2 tie JV Falcons draw 2-2 to a perennial top of the bracket Oyster River squad. Down 2-0 late in the game, James Green’s aggressive play in the final 3rd earns Bow a PK. Captain Carter Weiss cooly steps in and halves the lead. Moments later, OR strikes again on an offside play that was missed by the official, but corrected by the very sporting and classy ORHS coaching squad. With 2 minutes left in the game, Weiss snipes again from 18 yards out. Despite early game jitters, keeper Drew Burgess regains his form to keep his team in it with 12 saves, and a few answered prayers on near misses. Midfielders James Green, Matei Botha, Carter Weiss, and backs Ryan Dolder, Cam Leonard, Caleb Sandahl, and Liam Miller played all 80 minutes, picking up time for sidelined captain Jake Reardon. BHS JV at Laconia Sep 8, 2022 5-0 win JV Falcons shellac Sachems on Laconia's home turf. Gavin Buxton pounced on a spilled save for the opening goal. Carter Weiss and James Green resume their season's offensive rampage. Green gets 2 goals and an assist. Weiss nets a pair on masterful footwork in the final 3rd and a lethal finish. Herbie Madden earns his first High School point with a nifty back heel flick that fed one of Greens' goals. Bow's back line of Caleb Sandahl, Ryan Dolder, Liam Miller, and Cam Leonard had 2 words for their opponents. NOT TODAY! Mostly crickets for keeper Drew Burgess. Bow's only blemish was when Freshman captain Jake Reardon was sidelined following a collision. BHS JV hosts Coe-Brown Sep 1, 2022 4-2 loss Undermanned against a deep and skilled side, Bow falls 4-2 in it's first loss of the season. Carter Weiss struck twice just before the first half ended, giving Bow a 2-1 lead at the half. Weiss' first goal was a well placed PK. Seconds later he flipped a near side header in from an exquisite feed by James Green. Though fighting valiantly in the 2nd half, Bow succumbed to fatigued legs and gave up 3 unanswered goals. BHS JV at Pembroke August 30, 2022 6-2 win The Spartans were somewhat disorganized with their AD sitting in for the coach. Bow was quick to take advantage, particularly sophomores Carter Weiss and Games Green, who contributed the lion’s share of the offense.
