The Bow girls’ soccer team had been cruising on a six-game winning streak going into Friday, and the Falcons weren’t going to let John Stark spoil their party.
Stark, on the other hand, started the season hot with nine straight wins out of the gate, but had gone 2-2 in the last four.
When the two programs finally met Friday, Bow made quick work of the Generals, winning 4-1 to deal John Stark its third loss of the year.
“We got a huge win against a very talented and well-coached team,” Bow Coach Jay Vogt said. “We have been focusing on some things in training and also a little team bonding and today it all came together for us. This was a total team effort.”
Bow found the net quickly in the first half with three goals in a span of eight minutes to get ahead on the visiting Generals. Miah Munro headed the ball into the net off a cross from Danni DesRuisseaux, Gianna Celenza hit a near-perfect shot to the far post, and Maggie Vogt scored directly from a corner kick. Abbey Horner also recorded an assist.
Vogt added a second goal on a direct kick from 40 yards out to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead with 15 minutes to play.“Bow took advantage of our slow start,” John Stark Coach Heather Doucette said. “Scoring three goals, we were unable to recover despite outshooting Bow.”
The game leveled both of their records to 11-3 in the ever-tightening Division II standings as the season’s end nears. Stark and Bow are among six teams in the division to have 11 wins.
Bow has two more games and will face Kennett on the road Tuesday. John Stark, also with two to play, will host Pembroke on Monday.
